SAFETY OF NITROUS OXIDE FOR KIDS
We love kids, and we care that they have a good visit! We have lots of ways to keep kids comfortable during exams, cleanings, and procedures. We have a new numbing solution we apply right on the gums, or we can use our trusty laughing gas to make kids feel comfortable, relaxed, and happy the entire time. We understand that your child’s safety at the dentist is your top priority. Nitrous oxide is a very safe procedure that can reduce the stress level and risk of injury in children and allows us to perform effective teeth or dental cleaning and removal or extraction.
Nitrous oxide is one of the most commonly used types of dental sedation. We administer the gas through the nose during the appointment, helping kids (and adults!) stay calm and relaxed. Within five minutes, a mask with laughing gas will help the patient experience mild euphoric feelings from a safe mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen. Our friendly team will perform any services or procedures your child needs, keeping your child comfortable throughout the procedure. Dentists have used laughing gas for more than a century! Trust us, you have absolutely nothing to worry about if we give nitrous oxide to help your child through a dental visit and it bolsters effective teeth or dental cleaning as well as removal or extraction. It is a mild sedative that we easily control. It has no effects on the heart rate, heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, or brain. When combined with oxygen, it doesn’t disrupt normal breathing at all. We use a ratio of about 30 percent nitrous oxide to 70 percent oxygen, so our solution is very safe and gentle. It’s an easy, effective way to help your child enjoy the dentist!
TIPS FOR KIDS AT THE DENTIST
If your child is particularly frightened about coming to the dentist, we recommend letting him or her bring a favorite toy or stuffed animal to the visit. Our office is an inviting and welcoming environment for children, and we know as soon as they come here and meet our dentists, they’ll feel much more confident! You may want to be present while your child receives laughing gas, and/or comes out of sedation. Your child may feel nervous about the mask we use or feel groggy if we have to sedate him or her for a more serious procedure.
