What do you notice first about someone?

Regular grooming and maintenance at a beauty salon or barber is the standard of care” for most people. Women get highlights, full color, nails, and eyebrow waxing regularly. I visit the salon every 6 or so weeks for a cut and color, and I don’t bat an eye at doing it. My salon is very busy with the many regular customers in their scheduled rotation. Why? BECAUSE WE LIKE THE WAY IT LOOKS WHEN WE DO THINGS THAT MAKE US LOOK GOOD. We like the way we feel when we look nice. It improves our confidence and self-esteem. A polished look helps us professionally and personally.

First impressions often last. What do you notice first? The way one dresses is undoubtedly one of the things we notice. It may express how they are feeling about themselves. We can observe posture and detect confidence or insecurity. Seeing cleanliness or the lack thereof, we may portray a lack of care for oneself. What do you think of when you see baggy clothes? Maybe someone trying to hide their body? How we dress conveys how we feel. A sharp-dressed man or woman with erect posture conveys a cool poise and conviction. We know this and therefore do our best to impress our potential new employer at a job interview. What do you pay attention to when you go on a first date? Your mind goes through the usual cursory scan; how they are dressed, what about hairstyle and that SMILE. All things could come to a screeching halt based on that. A potential suitor could have a fantastic personality, but one may hesitate, getting to know them, when presented with an unsightly smile.

What do you think when you see someone’s neglected smile? I can’t help but notice missing, decayed and broken, and YELLOW teeth. I also notice when someone improves their smile. A straightforward way to enhance the appearance of your smile is whitening. You don’t know how many times I have whitened someone’s teeth only to hear them say “OMG! I love it. I wish I would have done this years ago”. Whitening is a straightforward, cost-effective way to make a dramatic improvement in appearance with minimal cost and upkeep after the initial investment. Here at Contemporary Family Dentistry, we make it easy for you to have and keep your smile the best it’s ever looked. We can prevent and even correct much of the age-related staining and graying that happens as we pass the decades away. And, remember, nobody has EVER asked me to make their teeth darker.
