Are bananas and apples bad for our teeth?

By February 3, 2021 December 7th, 2021 Teeth Health

Once, I came across a professional athlete who was gulping dozens of bananas and many apples at one go. When I demanded the reason, the athlete sarcastically replied, “Are you unaware of the fact that nutrients and fibers of bananas and apples would aid in keeping me fit as a fiddle!”

And that is when I realized the hazardous complications of having half knowledge.

Now, you would be assuming that the statement of the athlete was quite appropriate. It is because you see just one side of the picture. Let me take you to the other side.

What really makes bananas hazardous?

Bananas and apples are bad for your teeth. Bananas consist of high levels of glucose, fructose, and sucrose, which aid in tooth decay. Likewise, despite the benefits of nutrients found in apples, the acid and sugar present in them are bad for the teeth, too, because these sugars tend to soften the enamel of your teeth. Thus, it would result in tooth decay.

Banana is more sugary.

However, it should also be considered that the amount of sugar in bananas is way more than in apples. So, it would help if you were more careful while eating bananas.

Check and balance the diet.

But this does not imply that you would restraint yourself from eating bananas and apples henceforth. A pertinent number of apples and bananas in your diet would enhance your health. The real problem arises when this limit exceeds.

You would already be mindful of the toxic effects that sugar can cause. That is why it is necessary to keep a check and balance on your diet as an excessive number of apples and bananas are bad for your teeth.
